Aggressive mud tires work in some of the harshest conditions an ATV or UTV encounters. Mud can hide rocks, sticks, wire, and other debris, while the ride home can leave dried material packed around wheels, brakes, and suspension parts. Rinse Before the Mud Hardens
Start with low-pressure water to loosen heavy mud. Avoid forcing high-pressure spray directly into wheel bearings, seals, electrical connectors, brake components, or other sensitive areas. Work from the top down and remove buildup from the tread, inside the wheels, and around the suspension.
Heavy mud stuck inside a wheel can create an imbalance and cause vibration. Packed material can also hide damage that needs attention.
Inspect the Tread and Sidewalls
Once the tire is clean, look between the Razorback’s widely spaced lugs for cuts, punctures, embedded objects, or torn rubber. Check both sidewalls for bulges, deep scrapes, exposed cords, or signs that the tire contacted bodywork or suspension components.
Do not remove a deeply embedded object until you are prepared to repair the tire, because it may be temporarily slowing an air leak.
Check Tire Pressure When Cold
Measure pressure after the tires have cooled and use a gauge intended for the low pressures common to ATV and UTV tires. Follow the tire and vehicle recommendations. Pressure that is too low or too high can change traction, handling, bead retention, and tire wear.
Check Lug Nuts and Beadlock Hardware
Inspect lug nuts after installing a new package and recheck torque after the initial ride using the proper pattern and specification. If the machine uses true beadlock wheels, follow the wheel manufacturer’s inspection and torque sequence. Do not guess at a torque value.
Watch for Uneven Wear
Uneven tread wear can point to pressure differences, alignment problems, damaged suspension parts, or frequent operation on hard surfaces. Catching the pattern early can help prevent additional wear.
Replace Tires as a Compatible Set
Four-wheel-drive machines depend on compatible rolling diameters. When wear or damage requires replacement, follow the machine manufacturer’s guidance and avoid mixing significantly different tire sizes or tread depths.
