What lives under there
The belly of a side-by-side holds a lot of parts you do not want damaged: the frame rails, drivetrain components, the engine area and lines that run the length of the machine. Rocks, stumps, logs and rut edges all reach up and grab at them. A full skid plate gives the machine one continuous shield.
Half-inch ARMW. This skid is made with 1/2-inch thick ARMW, SuperATV’s proprietary material, which is described as abrasion, break and bend resistant. A plastic-type skid plate slides over rocks and logs instead of grabbing on them, which helps the machine keep moving when it drags.
Smooth bottom, easy cleanup
The mounting bolts sit flush with the skid plate, so there are no bolt heads sticking out to catch on obstacles. That smooth surface helps the RZR slide over things instead of hanging up. Drain ports make cleanup easier, which matters after a muddy ride when sludge would otherwise sit trapped between the skid and the frame.
Why the Trail S 900 needs it
The Trail S 900 is narrow and nimble, which makes it a favorite for tight wooded trails. Those trails are full of roots, rocks and stumps hiding in leaves. A narrow machine also tends to get driven over obstacles instead of around them. Full coverage gives you more confidence picking a line.
Many riders pair a full skid plate with rock guards and A-arm guards for complete protection. That combination covers the belly, sides and suspension, so you can ride tougher trails with more confidence. If your RZR is already scraped up underneath, a skid plate is a smart place to start.
