Why mount speakers up high
Wake tower speakers are designed to be mounted overhead, the way they are on boats. Up high, the sound carries over the engine and wind noise and spreads across the cab and the area around the machine. Speakers mounted low near the floor tend to get drowned out and are much more exposed to mud and water.
A solid base. A speaker bar gives you a secure, purpose-built mount instead of a patchwork of clamps and zip ties. Off-road vibration is tough on electronics, and a speaker that is not held firmly will rattle or work loose. A dedicated mount keeps your speakers where you put them.
Audio setup tips
- Pick speakers made for marine or powersports use so they can handle water and dust.
- Run wiring along the frame and secure it away from moving suspension parts and hot exhaust.
- Use a fuse close to the battery connection.
- Think about how much power your amp draws, especially if you run lights and other accessories.
- Aim speakers so passengers get clear sound without pointing straight at the driver’s ears.
Great for camp and the lake. Defender owners use their machines for more than work. Tailgating, camping, hunting camp evenings and beach days all go better with some music, and a tower-mounted setup fills a lot of space.
Keep it secure
After installing the speaker bar, check the mounting hardware after your first few rides. Off-road vibration can loosen bolts over time, especially on rough trails. A quick check now and then keeps your speakers secure and your sound clean. Also make sure the speakers do not block your view or interfere with the roof, windshield or other accessories mounted on the Defender’s cage.
