Turn Your Defender HD8 into a Powerhouse
Your Can-Am Defender HD8 is built for versatility, but SuperATV’s 8” GDP Portals push it far beyond stock performance. This upgrade delivers a full 8 inches of lift along with a built-in gear reduction that boosts torque where you need it most. Tackle rough terrain with greater clearance and confidently upgrade to larger tires. With options for 45%, 60%, or 70% gear reductions and your choice of billet or cast housings, you can fine-tune your setup for work or play.
What is a Dual Idler?
Perfection takes time. After years of research and development, we’ve made our dual idler gear portals unlike any other. By placing a second idler gear in the portal box, the load gets spread over twice as much surface area for more reliable torque transfer and the strongest gear set you can get. Two idler gears don’t do a thing if they’re not mated perfectly, though. Precision CNC grinding ensures ours do. Our gears are made from the industry’s toughest 9310 steel alloy. Didn’t think dual idlers mattered? With GDP’s quality and experience, they finally do.
Conquer All Terrain
What makes our Defender HD8 8” GDP Portals stand out is how customizable they are to your needs. You can select either a 45%, 60%, or 70% gear reduction, depending on how much low-end torque or top-end performance you want. Both options deliver serious strength, giving you the confidence to conquer rocky terrain, run bigger tires, and cut through deep mud with total control. It’s all about building your machine your way.
Reduce Stress on Your Drivetrain
With GDP Portals installed on your Defender HD8, the gear reduction happens right at the hub rather than inside the transmission. This design helps shield your drivetrain from unnecessary strain by easing the load on critical parts like the axles, driveshaft, differential, and transmission. In the long run, that added protection can mean fewer repairs and more time on the trail.
Ultra-Strong Build
You need parts that won’t quit, and SuperATV’s GDP Portals for the Defender HD8 deliver exactly that. They’re available in cast or billet aluminum housings, so they’re engineered for long-lasting performance. Add in heavy-duty 5/16” steel alloy backing plates, and you get unmatched strength where it counts. Ride hard, work harder—these portals are made to handle it all. Plus, a lifetime warranty gives you added confidence every time you hit the trail.
Our housings are reinforced for gear retention and optimized for oil flow
Advanced steel alloy backing plates are stronger than chromoly
Enhance with Portal Blood—gear oil formulated for GDP Portals
There are no gimmicks and no vents because vents do more harm than good—we know because we tested them
Advanced Gaskets, Seals, and Bearings
Our portals use:
Advanced gaskets and O-rings with excellent oil resistance and low deterioration rates
A sealed input gear and double-lipped output seal
100% sealing coverage throughout so you can forget about oil leaks
Double-angular contact output bearings to prevent premature wear
Roller idler and drive bearings to maintain perfect gear meshing
Frame Stiffener Required
An 8” portal lift paired with oversized tires can transform your Can-Am Defender HD8, but that extra capability comes with added strain on the frame. SuperATV’s Frame Stiffener is designed to handle it, giving your machine the reinforcement it needs to stay rigid and reliable. It’s built to keep your frame from flexing under demanding conditions.
